What this is
The Swedish word list shipped with Alfa Kraft — every move you play in a Swedish match is checked against it. It is a flat, alphabetically sorted text file where each line is one accepted word.
It is built from two Språkbanken sources. The SAOL 14 faksimil (Svenska Akademiens ordlista, the normative headword list) supplies the base forms, and SALDO Morfologi supplies the inflection paradigms — so the standard list also includes inflected forms like springer and sprang, not just springa. If you want SAOL headwords only, the strict list (Svenska (strikt)) ships the bold SAOL 14 headwords on their own, without the SALDO inflection expansion.
Only words in the Swedish alphabet [a-zåäö], 2–15 letters, survive into the final word list — see what gets filtered out below. The build is deterministic: the same inputs always produce the same output.
What gets filtered out
A word ships only if it can actually be played on an Alfa Kraft board. Dropped:
- Proper nouns (egennamn) — people, places, brands: Sverige, Anna, Volvo. Only the name reading is dropped, so ordinary words that double as names stay: björn, ros, sten, vik.
- Abbreviations (förkortningar) — osv., dvs., bl.a., in every word class: noun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition and conjunction abbreviations all go.
- Multi-word entries (flerordsuttryck) — till exempel, ta reda på. A space has no tile.
- Compound elements (sammansättningsled) — hälso-, -skap. A prefix or suffix on its own is not a word; the finished compound hälsokost is.
- Anything outside the alphabet — 2–15 letters from
[a-zåäö]only. Digits and punctuation are out, and accented loanword letters fold to their Swedish equivalent (é → e, ü → u). - Duplicates — the same word from several sources collapses to a single entry.
What SALDO Morfologi adds — and doesn’t
SALDO is used purely as the inflection engine. SAOL 14 stays the only authority on which words exist:
- A SALDO word ships only if its base form is a SAOL 14 headword. SALDO lists lemmas SAOL does not — abborrfisk, for one — and those, together with every inflection hanging off them, are dropped.
- SALDO spells letter-name and initialism paradigms three ways: x:et, x-et, xet. None of the three is a playable word, so all three go.
- Everything that survives both checks is in — every inflected form of a kept headword: springer, sprang, sprungit, katter, bilar.
